A Worshiping Ministry
St. Stephen’s is a community of believers who celebrate and encourage the spirit of worship. People are led into God’s presence through a variety of worship styles and experiences — including music, prayer, preaching/teaching, sacraments of baptism and holy communion, giving and creative arts.
St. Stephen’s employs a blended format of worship, which combines the richness and depth of Anglican hymns with contemporary Spirit-led and Spirit filled evangelical worship — creating opportunities for wide-participation throughout each service.
Essentially, our worship is characterized by three concerns: “to be rooted in Scriptural and early church traditions; to draw from the resources of the entire church; and a commitment to contemporary relevance.”
If you feel led to get involved in this ministry, please let us know.
We are always looking for team members to help out with operating the sound system or overhead projector (training is provided!). This is a great way to ease into involvement in music ministry at St. Stephen’s.
Please feel free to contact the Director of Music, Elizabeth Johnstone, for more information about Worship Teams, or any other area of Music or Arts Ministry mentioned here.
The Book of Common Praise, Revised, 1938
St. Stephen’s, Westmount uses this revised edition of the official hymn book for the whole of The Church of England in Canada (later Anglican Church of Canada). This hymnal is one of three still in common use in Canada, the others being the 1971 and the 1998 hymnals.
